Trondheim - Cathedral, Ferris wheel

Slept well after our rude interruption to look at the lights at 10pm last night.  Early rising and watched the ship navigate through the fjord on the way to Trondheim.  Had another delicious breakfast then watched the sun coming up over the mountains at 8.20.  I stepped out to take a couple of photos and at the temperature at 1 degree and with a brisk breeze blowing I didn’t stay long on deck.

On the way to Trondheim we passed another Hurtigruten cruise ship on the way south and one crazy Norwegian tradition is that if two Norwegian ship pass at sea there is a salute to each other.  We were all handed flags and as the ships passed passengers on both decks waved flags in recognition and the captain blasted his horn several times.  It was an interesting experience albeit very, very cold.

Docked at 9.45 and as we didn’t have any planned activities at this port, we walked in to the town centre.  Pam and Noelene went to visit the Cathedral and had a good look around it, there was a ticket needed to enter but we didn’t really have the time to spend inside the Cathedral in order to appreciate the full extent of the building.

Maureen, Denise and I opted to have a ride on the big ferris wheel and get a birdseye view of the town.

We all met back in the town centre for a coffee and the walk back to the ship in time for embarkation and a spot of lunch.  Sailing back through the fjord then further north towards the cold country.

Slow afternoon thank goodness!!!  Pam and I went to the information session for tomorrows events, ended up at the bar at about 5 o'clock.  We now have a designated table for tea with a three course menu dinner.  Very nice meal, trying to pick the local produce from the menu and trying to stick with the local beers during the trip.

We are cruising for about 2 hours in the open ocean (and are doing quite a bit of rocking and rolling) before we continue between islands and into fjords and smoother sailing.  Pam and went to have a look at the ocean before bed but it was very dark and cold and wet out there so we surrended quickly, returned to our room and went to bed.

Another day in paradise - low bank of cloud hanging around

The sun trying to make an appearance

We've hit that low cloud for the salute to another Norgwegian ship

Bloody hell it was cold!!!  The faster we wave the warmer we could get?

Red currant trees

Full of fruit

They might hear but do they listen?

Tourists blocking the view

There you go!!!

Pedestrian mall - all the sensible people are indoors

The Nidaros Cathedral, Trondheim

Great photo of Noelene standing near the door of the Cathedral

The others chose a more adventurous route

A little stage in the town square

The Church of Our Lady, dates back to 1200, oldest building in Trondheim

Made it back, Maureen is either very exhausted or very crazy....the jury is still out....
