The plans

Pam and I have joined forces with her sister, Maureen, and a couple of ladies from their tennis club, Noelene and Denise, to cruise the west coast of Norway in search of the Northern Lights.  Here's hoping!!!

We fly out of Brisbane at 1445hrs on Sunday the 3rd November, with stopovers in Singapore and Copenhagen, we arrive in Bergen at 1530hrs on Monday the 4th November.  We have 2 nights in Bergen then cruise on the MS Trollfjord from 6th November to Sunday the 17th November.  Pam and I then have another 2 days in Bergen and fly out on Tuesday at 0600hrs and arrive back in Brisbane at 1945hrs on Wednesday the 20th November.

The others have more adventures in Europe before traveling back to Australia in the fullness of time.

The cruise on the MS Trollfjord is not your typical cruise.  The ship is a working ship and as such calls into about 30 ports on the way over the top of North Cape on the way to Kirkenes then back again.  Some of the stops are just 15 minutes to drop off and pick up mail.  The beauty of this type of cruise is that we will be cruising close to the coastline and into stacks of fjords on the way to Kirkenes and on the way back.

We have 4 shore excursions, (a)  trip to Alnes lighthouse (Aalesund); (b) an Arctic coastal walk, checking out wildlife and Viking graves (Bodo); (c) a trip to the North Cape (Honningsvag); (d) a husky sled ride (Kirkenes)

The temperatures at the moment in Kirkenes range from a low of -2 to a high of 2 degrees....we will be taking some warm clothes.

Itinerary

As we follow our scenic route and cruise Norway’s coastline, most of the ports we visit by night northbound are revisited by day southbound, allowing you to discover majestic fjords, mountains, cosmopolitan cities, market towns, and isolated hamlets. You also have our full range of available optional seasonal excursions to tailor each day of your journey the way you want.
